Japanese Groups Offer Work, Study Exchanges

Whether you’re a company seeking a Japanese-speaking intern for four weeks or a student wanting to spend up to five years studying there, local organizations are offering exchange opportunities in both directions.

The Japan-America Society of Georgia is seeking businesses to host Japanese professionals for a four-week work exchange program in Atlanta while they are taking ESL and business English courses at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

The work exchange will take place from June 2-24, but applications are due May 9. Conducted in partnership with Obirin University, the program can help companies boost their own cultural fluency while helping a young Japanese professional gain critical exposure in their chosen field.

The Consulate General of Japan in Atlanta is accepting applications for its 2015 Monbukagakusho, or MEXT, scholarships, which include programs ranging from a 18-month research stint to a five-year program for high school graduates seeking careers in medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine. A three-year program is also available.

For further information and applications, visit http://www.atlanta.us.emb-japan.go.jp/monbusho.html or call the consulate at (404) 240-4300 or e-mail mextscholarship@aa.mofa.go.jp.

Learn more about hosting Japanese professionals and get the application forms by contacting Yoshi Domoto at the Japan-America Society of Georgia by phone at (404) 842-1400 or by email at jasgevents@mindspring.com.
